Why I do what I do
Two writers have deeply impacted my work and I include a piece from each to perhaps inspire your own topophilia and kid commitment
A Spiritual Journey
And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long
but only by a spiritual journey
A journey of one inch
Very arduous, humbling and joyful
Whereby we arrive at the ground at our feet and learn to be at home
- Wendell Berry
For the Children
The rising hills, the slopes of statistics lie before us
The steep climb of everything going up, up
As we all go down
In the coming century or the one beyond that
They say there are valleys, pastures
We can meet there in peace if we make it,
First, one word
One word to you and your children,
Stay together
Learn the Flowers
Go light
-Gary Snyder
